Russian and Chinese Customs discussed issues of struggle against infringing merchandise
The 9th session of Russian-Chinese working group on intellectual property protection was held on May 15-16, 2019 in China. The group was created under the Customs Collaboration Subcommittee of Committee for Preparation of Regular Meetings of Government Executives of Russia and China.
During the session the parties discussed specifics of detecting infringing merchandise in international mail; mechanisms of protection of the UEFA brand in the lead-up to the 2020 European Football Championship, some matches of which will be help in Saint-Petersburg; as well as the issues of intellectual property rights protection related to those transported by rail via the China – Europe transport route.
As part of the session, a seminar was held for representatives of more than 20 Chinese brands and owners of trademarks such as Apple, Nike, Adidas, Toyota, P&G, Beiersdorf AG and others. Business delegates learned about specifics of brands inclusion into customs intellectual property registers of the FCS of Russia and the GAC of China and expressed their readiness for active cooperation with customs on anti-infringement.
The next session of the Russian-Chinese working group and the next seminar for rightholders and business representatives will be held in Russia in 2020.
